Title
We used the Cognex A5000 in multiple projects. Couple models of the A5000 exists. Depending on your field of view requirements there are 3 cameras to choose from. The Cognex A5000 was used bin picking - the object was a pump for consumer cosmetics. 2 Bins were set up and an ABB robot was used to pick. Schmalz vacuum head was used to pick the pumps. The A5000 created a point cloud and gave the XYZ as well as angular coordinates for the robot to pick.
Pro
A5000 is a very accurate camera with good resolution. Once set up - it is a repeatable camera which satisfies any requirements. Cognex support is global so if any issues arise, they are quick to fix any problems. Very fast accurate image acquisition with the inbuilt strobe light. Easy to implement robot guidance. Fan is an additional accessory which is useful as you don't need it for most applications.
Con
Licensing with Cognex is problematic - it is a USB dongle - no server based licenses. Vision Pro can be quite difficult to learn and unlike other Cognex software needs more expertise. The A5000 is quite a large camera which can be an issue in small spaces. X-Coded Network cables are extremely expensive for what they are.
