The LBR iiwa is the world’s first series-produced sensitive, and therefore HRC-compatible, robot. LBR stands for “Leichtbauroboter” (German for lightweight robot), iiwa for “intelligent industrial work assistant”. With the LBR iiwa, humans and robots can work together on highly sensitive tasks in close cooperation, opening the possibility of new applications and paving the way for greater cost-effectiveness and efficiency.

Expensive but good robot
Pro
This model is very good, much more robust than competitors. I found this model very popular in the research community, which makes easy to find online support.
Con
The robot is pretty expensive. For academic research, it is hard to afford kuka's requests. Moreover, the use is less user-friendly w.r.t. other competitors. Hard to use as first experience.

Title
The KUKA LBR IIWA 14 cobot was used as part of an integration with two assembly stations and a linear actuator which received a component from another robotic cage. The component was placed into the first assembly machine by the operator. Meanwhile, the cobot collected another component from the linear actuator with one half of its gripper, then used the other half to pick up the component from the first assembly machine. At the end of the sequence, a robot proceeded to the second assembly machine and placed both parts in their desired areas.
Pro
The ability of the cobot to cooperate with the operator improved the entire process of assembling the two parts together. The electrical and pneumatical connection wasn't very complicated, and went quite intuitively. The robot manages to work even at almost the maximum allowable lifting capacity. With a double gripper and two heavy components, it has absolutely no problem with operating.
Con
At some point during the integration, a KUKA service support was necessary - the cobot had refused to do anything. Unfortunately, this bug was not mentioned in any of the user manuals, and had to personally appear at the site. Programming of the cobot was also a bit problematic, but perhaps all due to the limited space around the cobot itself.
