IRB 1600 Overview

What is IRB 1600?

The ABB IRB 1600 is a high-performance industrial robot designed to optimize both speed and accuracy without compromise. It features significantly shorter cycle times, up to 50% faster than competing models, which enhances throughput in various applications such as material handling, machine tending, and assembly. This efficiency is largely due to ABB’s second-generation QuickMove motion control, strong motors, and low friction losses in its spur gears.

One of the standout features of the IRB 1600 is its consistent performance at high speeds. Unlike many robots that cut corners when moving quickly, the IRB 1600 maintains precise paths thanks to its TrueMove motion control and robust design. This results in consistently high workpiece quality, minimizing defects and maximizing yield. Its sturdy construction, combined with intelligent motion control, ensures low vibrations and reliable operation even under demanding conditions.

The IRB 1600 is also highly adaptable and reliable. It can be mounted in various orientations, including on a shelf, wall, or inverted, making it versatile for different workspace configurations. With an IP54 classification for the entire manipulator and IP67 for sensitive parts, it is well-suited for tough environments. The optional Foundry Plus protection adds rust resistance and specialized coatings, further enhancing its durability. Additionally, features like low power consumption and a quiet operating noise level contribute to its efficiency and workplace safety.

What applications is IRB 1600 product best for?

  1. Material Handling: The IRB 1600 excels in material handling tasks, offering precise and rapid movement of components. Its robust design and QuickMove motion control ensure efficient transfer and manipulation of materials, reducing cycle times and increasing productivity.

Title
It was a hatch back car's rear door panel which was supposed to be lifted from one operation station of tag welding machine set to sewing machine bed. This robot was used to hold the part for the tag weld and then unmount to the next operation post.
Pro
Documentation was fair enough to understand the operating envelope as well as set of controls to merge seamless wway with other cobots. Service engineer was there to support for the programming of the path for hold, pick and place operation.
Con
For some legacy systems, the integration was not so smooth.
