This technology enables all Digital Robots to work adaptively by detecting their working environment and quickly and easily locating, identifying, checking, picking up, and processing components without needing to follow predefined paths. Industrial robots from the HORST series can be optionally equipped with compatible 2D or 3D camera systems from various manufacturers, making it more intelligent.
One of the most significant advantages of using a 3D camera system with HORST is its ability to perform position detection. HORST can use the camera system to remove disordered and irregularly shaped individual parts from a container, such as a wire mesh box or a small load carrier (SLC), and feed them in the correct orientation for further processing. Using the camera system and integrated image processing, horstVISION creates a three-dimensional image of the working environment and the contents of the crate. It can pick up hanging components reliably and collision-free from transport racks or rack systems and place them down again in a defined manner, bringing order to the chaos.
In addition to position detection, HORST’s 3D camera system also enables intelligent parts handling. With the help of CAD data, components can be recognized, and the gripping position for the robot can be determined. HORST calculates the optimal robot path in interaction with horstVISION automatically, ensuring the absence of collisions. It intelligently recognizes a component, detects the suitable gripping position, picks up the component precisely and quickly, and puts it down again in a defined and safe manner.
Furthermore, horstVISION 3D makes it possible for HORST to depalletize parts automatically. The 3D camera system enables HORST to detect height positions in addition to the 2D system without having to teach in the individual positions. This means that components can be detected and gripped even more precisely. HORST can depalletize small load carriers (SLC) in different sizes and alignments in the same process, even if they are inaccurately positioned on pallets or stacks.

The Ensenso X series is a modular and ultraflexible 3D camera system. The projector module with 100 W LED projector power is equipped with an integrated Gigabit Ethernet switch and can be combined with selected GigE uEye camera models to a customised 3D camera system.
The camera mounting brackets are available in a range of widths to allow for the implementation of base lines with different sizes. You can also configure the camera's angle of view and choose between various C-mount lenses with different focal lengths for the camera and projector. This flexibility facilitates a wide range of working distances of more than 5 metres, allowing you to capture objects with volumes of several cubic metres, e.g. heavily-laden pallets or entire rooms. You can choose between camera models with 1.3 megapixel or 5 megapixel resolution for an even greater field of view and a higher level of detail.
For particularly high demands on robustness, the Ensenso X30 and Ensenso X36 3D camera systems are optionally available with IP65/67 and therefore protected against dirt, dust, water splashes or cleaning agents as well as accidental shifting of the optics.
