Title
I have used Halcon as environment for more complex vision algorithms for which of the shelve camera platforms do not work. Halcon gives you endless flexibility to develop custom machine vision applications. Halcon is only the software to develop the vision algorithm, it works with all industrial GigE, USB3.0 and this is vendor independent
Pro
It is an excellent tool for complex vision problems, you can program in it and not just configure like with other platforms. It is als easy to test your algorithm in test images.
Con
You always need a seperare “runner” (C#, Python) application on a Windows pc to run the Halcon script in. The native interfacing functions are limited (e.g IO, profinet). The learning curve is high. The community is not big so not much online resources or forums
Robot
Epson, ABB
