The food automation industry is often challenged with products that cannot be handled with traditional suction vacuum or rigid end-of-arm tools. These traditional methods damage variable and fragile food products resulting in downtime and production loss. mGrip is made of soft elastomers and is pneumatically powered. Yet, its real strength is the construction, which involves engineering the distribution, configuration, and size of a network of parallel air chambers embedded in the elastomer that inflate from a single pneumatic source. Soft Robotics’ food-grade soft gripper technology allows robots to safely and efficiently pick and pack singulated food products while also increasing throughput, and reducing waste and providing less reliance on human workers to meet the need of the rapidly-increasing food industry.
