CELERA P series Overview

What is CELERA P series?

Alkeria's CELERA P series is a new camera model that features a special polarization image sensor. This unique camera is capable of capturing polarized light, which is essential in applications where objects are made on transparent or highly reflective surfaces, such as glass, plastic, or metal. Polarized light can also facilitate inspection of curved surfaces, low-contrast objects, detection of internal tensions, particles, or scratches in transparent materials, among others.

Unlike standard cameras with monochrome or color sensors, which can only measure light intensity or wavelength, CELERA P's sensor has a special polarization filter array that allows it to acquire data on light polarization without requiring additional filters in front of the lens. Each pixel is provided with a dedicated polarized filter that is orientated 0°, 45°, 90°, and 135°, and arranged in a 2x2 pixel array, called "superpixel." With this technology, each superpixel can acquire four different polarization angles simultaneously, allowing for the derivation of complex parameters such as the Degree of Linear Polarization (DoLP) and the Angle of Linear Polarization (AoLP).

CELERA P's powerful FPGA architecture allows it to execute polarization detection directly on-board without overloading the computer. Based on the dual-USB3 platform of CELERA cameras, CELERA P is capable of reaching up to 152 fps while processing something like ~200 million vectors per second.

CELERA P also comes with a unique feature called FusionView, which maps AoLP on the Hue component of the HSV color space and DoLP on the Saturation component, giving an intuitive preview of these properties of light. The camera is provided by standard with a C-mount lens adapter, but other accessories such as an F-mount adapter, shielded I/O cable, and industrial grade USB3 cables are available upon request.

What applications is CELERA P series product best for?

Alkeria's CELERA P series polarization camera is best suited for applications where it is necessary to inspect objects made of transparent or highly reflective surfaces such as glass, plastic, or metal. It can reduce reflections by filtering unnecessary light waves and picking only the essential information from selected polarization angles. Polarized light can also facilitate applications where it's necessary to inspect curved surfaces, low-contrast objects, detection of internal tensions, particles, or scratches in transparent materials, among others. The camera's unique polarization image sensor eliminates the need for external polarizing filters, making it easy to use while offering advanced polarization imaging capabilities.
